Casa Lajagua provides you with excursions of your choice with options including fishing trips, a day at Isla Iguana, whale watching, horseback riding and surfing. The fishing trips which are popular in this area can be offered on our large fishing boat (a fully equipped Contender) or with a local fishing captain in his panga, the traditional fishing boat of the area.

Activities

Fishing

Come and fish the famous “Tuna Coast”. It is reported that world renowned fisherman Tony Pena came up with this name for this part of the peninsula. Although famous for huge tuna, other species are also very abundant. Black marlin, sailfish, dorado, roosterfish, cubera snapper and others can be caught virtually year-round.  Things seem to magically come together here in regards to the seasons and arrival of the yellowfin tuna. The best fishing months are from April through September – this is also when the winds have shifted and the so called “rainy season” has arrived. This area of Panama however, receives significantly less rain than any other part of the country. So while other locations in Panama will be fishing in the torrential rain, we will be out on calm seas under mostly blue skies going after trophy fish.

Our boat is a 25’ Contender Center Console.  For those familiar with boats, they will recognize that Contenders are considered to be one of the best fishing boats available anywhere. Our 25’ Contender is equipped with GPS, fish finder, VHF radio, stereo, sun shade, first aid, and flare kit. We also use top end Penn reels, rods and an assortment of lures and baits to help ensure a successful day out on the water.

Fishing charters include: Captain and local guide/deckhand, lunch, drinks, and snacks. Pricing depends on duration of charter. Maximum four guests on the boat.

Panga Fishing

For those looking for a more economical option we can arrange fishing trips with a local captain in a traditional “panga” boat. This is a very popular way to fish in this area and still affords the opportunity to land some great fish. Panga charters include local captain, lunch, drinks, and snacks. Pricing depends on duration of charter. Maximum four guests on the boat.

Isla Iguana

Isla Iguana is a 55 hectare wildlife refuge with pristine white sandy beaches and crystal clear water. It more resembles a Caribbean island than the typical Pacific coast beach. It offers great swimming and snorkeling. Even the boat trip to the island can provide a special experience. Schools of dolphins are often spotted as well as sea turtles resting at the surface. During certain times of the year humpback whales also inhabit the waters around Isla Iguana.

Your tour includes:

  • Return boat transfer from Playa Arenal. Playa Arenal is just a 5 minute drive from Casa Lajagua and the boat trip is approximately 20 minutes each way.
  • A full cooler containing a healthy lunch, snacks and ice cold beverages including soda and water.
  • Beach chairs and a sun umbrella.
  • Complete snorkeling gear is also provided.

You will have everything you need to enjoy a wonderful day at an amazing beach!

Whale and Dolphin Watching Tours

Panama is one of the only places in the world where humpback whales migrate from both northern and southern hemispheres.  From mid-June to mid-October are the peak viewing months with several thousand humpbacks coming to Panama to breed and give birth.   Along with the humpback whales we may also see bottlenose, spotted and spinner dolphins. Blue whales, sperm whales, orcas, minke whales, manta rays, devil rays, and turtles resting at the surface are all possibilities. Let us take you on an exciting adventure, incredible opportunity to photograph whales, swim with dolphins and encounter other marine life. You are in great hands as we both have a long history and knowledge about the marine life.

Pricing dependent on number of guests and duration of tour.

Surfing

A short drive from Pedasi is the famous Playa Venao which has one of the best breaks in all of Panama. The surfing is best around mid-high tide and is available year round.

Never surfed before? No problem! We can point you in the right direction for beginner to advanced lessons, Venao has it covered. Playa Venao is a great spot to learn with experienced local instructors and offers a well-stocked surf shop and full-service outdoor bar as well as restaurants to help you refuel and relax after your surf.
